Have you ever wondered how your fav brands came to be?
I know I do. I love learning about how my fav designers became the famous influencers they are now. One of my all time fav brands is GUCCI!!! I'm a GUCCI girl lol. The story of how GUCCI started has always been a huge inspiration to me. That's why I would like to share it with you. I hope it inspires you too.
As you probably already know the brand GUCCI was named after Guccio Gucci. Guccio Gucci was born in 1881, his dad was an Italian leather goods maker and his mom was a dress maker. As a young adult he hadn't yet found his calling so he spent some time traveling through places such as London and Paris. He worked many common jobs such as waiter, dishwasher, concierge, etc. In his time in London he worked in the elegant Savoy Hotel as a lift attendant. It was while working at the hotel that he developed his taste for fashion. He loved the style and elegance of the wealthy and famous people. In particular he loved the attention to detail in the luggage styles. This was his turning point.
In his 40's he decided to demonstrate his love and appreciation for fashion by creating a collection of high quality leather goods that not only were a success, but it went on to revolutionize the leather goods history and become one of the most respected well known brands that we know and love today.
In 1921 the first shop was founded in Florence. One of his biggest influences was horseracing. His company was soon known for its impeccable craftsmanship. His aesthetic was so well known that with the help of his 3 sons he was able expand his brand in Milan and Rome.
The company had successfully operated without a logo until 1933 when one of Guccio's sons Aldo Gucci set out to design a logo for their brand. Aldo made a monogram using his fathers initials to honor him and all his hard work and dedication. By 1950 GUCCI had been established as a premier luxury brand that by 1953 GUCCI opened their first store over seas. 1953 was a significant year for GUCCI, but sadly it was also the year Guccio Gucci passed. His legacy and his company are now known to symbolize grandeur and authenticity worldwide. GUCCI will forever be known in fashion history as a synonymous of luxury and sophistication.
